Dr Walter Compton had surely the most impressive collection of Japanese swords ,Tsuba & Armour in the west. The Hard cover book of the "One Hundred master piece's from the collection of Dr. Walter.A. Compton" has to be the best detailed and illustrated work for students of the subject ever. Fine large format {37.5cm x 27cm} has superb and detailed photographs of the very best in Nihonto.
Three catalogues were required for the sale of Dr. Comptons collection by Christies of New york.
This took plac over the period March 31st to December 17th 1992.
Cat: {1} has 399 lots
Cat {2} has 315 lots
Cat: {3} has 255 lots
Each catalogue is 30cm x 21 cm.
Dust covers and price realised & Mint condition.
The 100 master piece's is boxed and in mint condition.
Outside of Japan this collection of four volumes are probably the finest set of English language reference woks available and of course now collectable and rare.

The Dust cover is tatty but the hard cover book is not.
This is generally accepted as THE reference work on Japanese swords and fittings, Includes the reference catalogue by Morihiro Ogawa.
All the A5 pages contain the finest photographs and detailed definition of the Boston Museum collection which is thought to be the finest outside Japan.
